In this weeks challenges we learned how to use colour and how by using certain colours and combinations on colours it can create different moods and emotion as well as making the image look visually pleasing.
The first part of the challenge was about colour theory and the colour wheel so we had to colour in three images of people to show analogous, complimentary, triadic and tetradic colours. Analogous colours are colours that lie next to each other on the colour wheel, normally these types of colour schemes use one dominant colour and use the adjacent colours to enhance it. Complimentary colours are colours that lie opposite to each other on the colour wheel, normally when using this type go colour scheme one dominate colour is chosen and the opposite colour is used to enhance it. Triadic colours are three equally spaced colours around a colour wheel, normally this type of colour scheme is used when strong visual contrast is needed. Tetradic colours are four colours equally spaced around a colour wheel, it can also be know as double complimentary, normally when using this type of colour scheme one colour is dominate and the rest are used to enhance as this type of colour scheme can sometimes be hard to balance.
The first image I had to colour in was an image of a man and this image had to show analogous colours. Then I had to colour in the same image again but to show complimentary colours these are shown below.

The next image I had to colour in was of a women and it need to convey complimentary colours. Then I had to colour in the image again to show triadic colours. These are shown below.

The final image I had to colour in was of a man in a futuristic suit and I had to show analogous colours. Then I had to colour in the same image again to show tetradic colours but also make it as ugly as I could. These are shown below.

The next part of this challenge to add colour to black and white images to create mood and atmosphere. We had to choose 4 images and attempt to create the 4 listed moods and atmospheres shown below.
- Striking and Dramatic
- Light and Cheerful
- Dark and Depressing
- Warm v Cool
The first image I have chosen was of a Hong Kong Street and I wanted this image to convey striking and dramatic mood/ atmosphere. I did this by trying to high light the woman and the child by making everything around them darker. I also added red to her dress for some visual impact.

The next image I have chosen was an image of a horizon and I wanted this image to convey a light and cheerful mood/ atmosphere. I did this by trying to happy a warm colours like yellow and oranges for the sunrise.

The next image I have chosen was an image of a woodland landscape and I wanted this image to convey a dark and depressing mood/ atmosphere. I did this by using dark blues and greys as they are dull and depressing colours.

The final image I have chosen was of an image of a house in snow and I wanted this image to a convey warm v cool mood/ atmosphere. I did this by having the light in the image project warm colours like orange and red. Then to create the cool part of the image coloured the snow in a light blue colour.
