Task C: Style frame
Task D: Realised Digital Set Extenstion
In this task I need to use a Image sequence that I shot my self which was between 15-20 seconds. then track the sequence and composite a 3D asset to create a digital set extenstion. In my style frame I talked about how I was going to create a 3D model of stone henge and composite that into my scene. I also spoke about creating a mountain scape in the background with a planet in the sky. However I did not stick to the origianl style frame as the plate image I used on that was just a stand in until i got my footage. This is why I have a different mountain scape in the final render as i felt this worked better with the plate footage.
The first thing i did to create my set extenstion was to track my original plate footage to see if there was enough tracking info for me to actually composite a 3D asset into the scene.
Since I was able to get enough tracking information i was able to create a tracked camera and a point cloud where i was able to centre the floor plane with the ground in my footage so that i could have the asset in the right place when i finally put it into the scene. so for now i just added a cube so i knew where the 3D assetwould roughly be. This then allowed me to export the tracked camera, the point cloud and the cube into maya so that i could place my 3D asset into the right place and check the it works with camera. I then was able to start working on creating stone henge. I did this by using maya and Z-brush as i used maya to block out the ruin then i exported it into z-brush to add detail and create a texture. the Final result is shown below.

looking back at my 3D asset there are a few things i woukld change like the texture work isnt done that well on my object but since its far a way in the scene this should matterb to much. Another thing that i would change would be my Z-Brush work as i wish i took a bit more time and care when deatiling the rocks so they look more like ruins.
After that i then created a new mountain scape in photoshop using frame 352 from my original plate. The reason i used this frame is this when my footage is most central and the ground plane is flat. below is my new matte painting.

As you can see I didnt add the planet into this matte painting this was beacuse i was going to add it in nuke using a sphere and i didnt need it for what i planning to do with image appove. I then wanted to create a 3D mountain scape so that parallax will be more obvious make a more realistic look compared to the flat look of just using cards.
So the first thing i did was go into my pre tracked camera in maya and go to frame 352 since that was the frame i got my original image from and i created an image plane with the appove image on. I then created simple geometry that outlines the differnt layers in the shot and made them 3D. I then was able to export all this geometry into Nuke and i went to frame 352.

I then was able to create a copy om original camera and lock it to frame 352 so that i could project my matte paniting over the 3D objects and the reason i did this is beacsue if i just used the orignal camera the matte painting would move across the camera rather than staying in the same place. Now that i projected the matte painting it means it will allow me create meaningful parallax in my scene as its 3D objects. This really helped with the overall of the final piece as it allowed me to create a more realistic shot.

The next thing I did was composite the different passes of my stone henge into the shot. this allowed me to see what my 3D asset looked like in the scene and make sure the lighting and look are correct with the rest of the scene.

After that I then added my sky replacment and the planet in the sky.

The i added some colour corrects to belnd my scene together better and look like they belong together in the scene. I also added some noise layers to create mist/ fog affect in my scene to create a bit more atmosphere.
Below is my final composite and break down videos.
Final Render
Break Down
Over all im really happy with what my final render came out like however there was a few things i could of improved on like the 3D mountains i could of created them with a bit more detail so that i could have improved the parallax on the mountains. Also i wish i could have intergrated my Stone henge asset a bit better than i did but in conclusion i stuck to my original idea as best as possible and created a set extenstion that i am very happy with.
